The lady Aztecs played their final game of the year against Xavier College Preparatory in the 2017 Girls Volleyball State Championship. The Aztecs lost 4-1 with the final set being controlled by the Gators 26-17. However, the entire season can be looked at as a success with having a record of 43-3 to be named the 2017 AIA State Runner-Ups.

“(I think the season as a whole) went awesome,” Head Coach Ben Maxfield said. “We exceeded a lot of expectations. We only had three losses and they were all to (Xavier) and were still ranked in the top 15.”

The match started out tough with with the Lady Aztecs down in the first set. That was until they were able to catch up and push through to shorten Xavier’s lead to 19-17 and eventually tie it up at 22. Corona was able to take the first set, 25-23. As the match continues, the girls did not give up but Xavier claimed the next three sets becoming the 2017 State Champions.
