Both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams are looking to accomplish big things this season with their \experienced runners.

The boys’ team has six of seven returning varsity members and many younger ahtletes with chances at making the varsity squad.

“We have most of our team coming back,” returning top runner Matt Whitlatch said. “A lot of the JV runners from last year have worked really hard over the summer and have gotten a lot better.”

Many members of the team attended a summer training camp. The team is hoping to win their region meet and make a run at the state title after a fairly dissappointing state meet last year.

“Last year, we didn’t reach our potential in the state meet,” Whitlatch said. “This year we are going to be in the hunt for the region title and we are confident that we will be in it at the state meet as well.”

The girls’ team is returning all seven varsity runners including Danica Ganje who was in the top ten in the state meet last year.

“We did well last year in the state meet, but we didn’t do as well as we hoped,” said Ganje. “We should do much better this year.”

The girls placed fifth in the state meet in 2008 and are hoping to contend for the title in 2009.
