This year, a total of 19 juniors at Corona have been selected to participate in the Tempe Sister Cities program.

The goal of the program is to provide an opportunity for Tempe students and families to develop understanding among the people of Trollhattan, Sweden, Cuenca, Ecuador, Regensburg, Germany, Skopje, Macedonia, Lower Hutt, New Zealand, Zhenjiang, China, Beaulieu sur Mer, France and Carlow, Ireland through a family living experience. To make this possible, the Tempe Sister Cities committee pairs each participant with a foreign member and it provides financing for the travel expenses.

“I am really excited about getting to go to Germany,” Morgan Kroeger said. “I think this will be a life changing experience, so I’m really happy that I’ve been selected.”

The new members that have been selected from Corona include: Claire Tilton, Brittany Lang, Laurel Gwilliam (Macedonia), Cecilia Iole, Lauren Hacker (New Zealand), Rachael Jones, Shannon Wheeler, Emily Baker-Slama, Sarah Zdancewicz, Lauren Milovich, Kroeger, Julie Bui (Germany), Yonit Upart (Sweden), Carly Robertson (Ecuador), Jillian McLaughlin (France), Haimo Ren, Scott Eidson, Jenny Chapko and Ellen Dunn (Ireland).

Many of these participants have begun using social networks to meet the foreign members before their trips even begin.

“I recently found out who my German sister is,” Zdancewicz said. “We have started talking on Facebook a lot so we’re both getting really excited for everything we’re going to get to do together.”

When these selected students leave for their trips this summer, they will spend five weeks in the sister city they have been assigned to.

“Overall, I am just really excited to be a part of a new culture and to develop a lifelong relationship with my sister,” Kroeger said. “I love her already.”
