Dancing with the staff

In order to raise money for a trip to New York City, the Corona del Sol dance program came up with the clever idea to spoof the popular television Dancing With the Stars to create Dancing with the Staff.

On Saturday January 9, nine Corona staff members performed with two dance students each to songs of their choice. The staff dancers included, Ben Forbes, Nick Taylor, Keith Hester, Brandon Romney, Anthony Cantelmo, Jennifer Bart, Jan O’Malley, Brandon Waller and Derrick Carter.

After each performance, the judges would provide a score on a scale from one to ten along with some witty remarks. The judging panel included yearkbook teacher, Margie DiCeasere, activities director, Jim Bell and senior Mark Naufel.

The performances were far from boring and ranged in style from a flawless “Single Ladies” rendition by Taylor to a tyrannosaurus-rex imitation by Forbes and everything inbetween.

In the end, the scores by the judges did not matter and the winners were determined by how loud the audience cheered for each teacher. It was finally narrowed down to the final two, Forbes and Taylor, who then competed in a freestyle dance off with beats provided by the MC, Brett Butler. The audience then cheered for whom they wanted to win and Taylor came out the victor.

“Oh Taylor definitely deserved to win,” Forbes said.
