The percussion students put on quite a show in the auditorium on Oct. 22. The show featured many glow-in-the-dark themed pieces and revolved primarily around the “Orangeman” group.

The concert also hosted two special guests, the Brisas Mallet Masters and the Aprende Percussion students.

The show was centered around the Orangeman group, which included seniors Fouad Melki and Luke Samuels, junior Nick Nist and sophomore Michael Atkins. The students impersonated the popular Blue Man group throughout the show. They were painted in orange and in their opening act they searched for each other throughout the auditorium and finally ended up on stage playing with light-up drumsticks. They then played tubes making the audience laugh by performing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” and the Star Wars theme song.  The Orangemen continued to interact with the audience by having them clap, standup and cheer throughout the show. Many students found this to be the best part of the show.

“I really enjoyed watching the orange guys perform,” junior Kelley Nero said.

Though this might have been the highlight of the show, there were many other small pieces that had fun twists, which made the whole concert exciting.

In one piece a few percussion students had their painted hands glowing in a black light as they stomped and clapped out a beat using no instruments.

Another favorite was when senior Austin Ohlin, junior Zach Kime and sophomore Trey Berreman played a temple block in black       sweat suits that had glow strips on the arms, legs, body and around the head. This made an outline of a large stick figure when all     the lights were turned off.

“It was a cool effect because all you could see was the outline of a stick figure,” junior Alyssa Nill said.

At the end of the concert one of the Orangemen brought up an unsuspecting audience member to read their thank yous for them.         After that they once again got their listener’s involved in the show by having a sing along to the well known Journey song “Don’t       Stop Believin’.”

There was a big turnout at the concert and the lecture halls had to be opened in order to allow everyone in. With the Orangeman         group and the rest of the interesting pieces, the percussion students filled the auditorium with excitement and gave the audience their money’s worth.
